After-School Program
Kindergarten-2nd grade
Kindergarten - 2nd Grade After-School Program is designed to support kids’ creativity, individuality, and friendship skills. A cohorted model, our kids spend time with their grade-level peers.
Kids learn through play & we want to encourage that! Both outdoor games & dramatic play are a key part of our program.
We disguise learning as fun, engaging, and hands-on activities. Developing reading & math skills doesn’t always look like traditional math & reading instruction, but enrichment that incorporates key learning.
Friendship skills must be taught & practiced. We are a place for kids to do just that, supported by trusted adult mentors.
Typical Daily Schedule
-
Kids arrive at program and get settled for the day. Snack is provided via the USDA Nutrition Program and a partnership with Ocean Beach School District. During this time we review the schedule for the day.
-
Offered outdoors whenever possible, kids have time to engage in structured play activities: games, playground, sports, etc. This time is often divided by age/grade.
-
Students participate in enrichment activities that disguise the math and reading learning they are doing. Focused by age group, these activities support number fluency, emerging math skills, reading practice, and other core learning for K-2.
-
Throughout the week there are specialized activities that either are in line with the theme of the month, or are brought to us by special guests. Common guests include: Timberland Regional Library, Peace of Mind Pacific County, and visiting artists.
-
Bus kids depart Long Beach Elementary at 5:15 pm. Once bus kids depart, any of our remaining students gather for a group wrap up and end of day activities. All kids must be picked up by 5:45 pm.
Long Beach After School Program is located across the street from Long Beach Elementary - behind the District Office - in the old Early Learning Center. 305 5th St. SE, Long Beach.
